Student Information System / Banner
The Information Systems Department at CSU-Pueblo has developed the Administrative Information System (AIS) over the last 20+ years and it has served as a rock-solid foundation to the present time. It has been tailored to the specific historical needs of our institution but is not easily extensible to meet the emerging needs to inter-operate with the Student Information Systems of other CSU-System members like Fort Collins.
Within the last few years, the Chancellor of the CSU System indicated that CSU member institutions were to integrate our information technology systems as a foundation to better serve the needs of students as a System and not just as separate institutions.
In order to meet this challenge and the growing capability demands and feature requests, the CSU Board of Governors agreed to fund the transition of Fort Collins’ Banner SIS system into a “multi-entity” configuration that would allow CSU-Pueblo to migrate from AIS to this shared Banner environment with Fort Collins.
CSU-Pueblo’s own Banner SIS would then operate fully from CSU servers in Fort Collins.
Banner
Banner has been established as a proven standard across the higher-education landscape around the world. By becoming a Banner school, CSU-Pueblo dramatically reduces the risk inherent with dependence on a custom system that requires highly specialized in-house expertise.
CSU-Pueblo will not only benefit from shared SIS experience and knowledge with our partners in Fort Collins, but can access a vast resource in the greater Banner community of peer institutions.
Banner will provide a robust set of tools, features and support options that will allow CSU-Pueblo to focus on its mission of serving students more effectively. The scale and impact of this project is significant and is one of the largest projects any university can undertake.
CSU Collaboration
A joint Fort Collins-Pueblo project management initiative is overseeing the development and implementation of the project in concert with consulting services from Ellucian, the company that has developed the Banner product. Additional staffing resources are also required to mitigate the impact on normal operations since many administrative staff will be heavily involved in the Banner implementation and migration.
Detailed project planning and preparation of the initial Banner test environment began in 2019. Implementation of Banner will be by functional area, department-by-department in a carefully orchestrated will occur throughout 2020 and early 2021, with a project “go live” date of Fall semester of 2021.
