CSU Pueblo Celebrates First National Housekeeping Week Sept. 14-18

PUEBLO, Colo. CSU Pueblo will hold its first National Housekeeping Week from September 14 to 18, a five-day tribute to the custodians who keep campus buildings clean, safe and running every day.

National Housekeeping Week falls every year during the second full week of September. The observance recognizes housekeeping and custodial professionals in hotels, hospitals, schools and offices for their role in health, safety, comfort and daily quality of life. CSU Pueblo joins the tradition for the first time this fall, and organizers hope the week becomes an annual campus tradition.

Carrie Cooper, custodian IV supervisor, leads a team she says takes real pride in the work.

“I am fortunate to work alongside a wonderful group of custodians who consistently demonstrate professionalism, dedication, and a commitment to excellence,” Cooper said. “They continually strive to improve their skills, take pride in their work, and show up each day ready to do their very best for our campus community.”

Damian Capritta, director of facilities, plant operations, credits the team for work that often goes unnoticed.

“Our custodial and housekeeping team represents some of the hardest-working individuals at CSU Pueblo. Much of their work happens quietly and behind the scenes, yet the results are visible in every clean, safe, and welcoming space our students, faculty, and staff rely on each day. Their dedication and pride set the foundation for our campus environment and directly support student success.”

“Many of our custodial employees go even further in their commitment to CSU Pueblo by taking classes and earning degrees while working full-time. Their achievements reflect the determination and resilience that define our Pack family, and they serve as powerful examples for others pursuing their own educational goals.”

“There are also members of our team that carry additional wellness training, allowing them to recognize when a student may be struggling and connect them with support. Their daily presence across campus makes them an important part of our student-care network, often noticing things others might miss.”

“I also want to acknowledge the steady leadership of their supervisor, Carrie Cooper, whose guidance, compassion, and consistency strengthen the department and ensure our employees feel valued and supported.”

“I am incredibly proud of this team and grateful for the care, professionalism, and humanity they bring to CSU Pueblo every single day,” Capritta said.

Faculty, staff and students can show appreciation in person at a table in the OSC from September 14 to 17, where appreciation cards will be available to fill out for the custodial staff.

The custodial team's work rarely makes headlines. This week, CSU Pueblo wants that work seen.
